We have a solar eclipse New Moon perfecting at 12:41 am MDT. It’s happening at 00°21′ Cancer. The themes here are around family. We also have Saturn at 0 degrees and it’s making a very tight quincunx (150°) aspect to the New Moon. Quincunx aspects are about not seeing eye to eye, or not being able to see the goal line. The planets involved can’t see each other, and therefore adjustments need to be made for any kind of work to be done on their behalf. With the Moon being in its own sign and the symbol for mother, and Saturn being in its own sign and representing father- we have a disconnect with these 2 roles as we have understood them. Family may be an important issue for some of us. Saturn in Aquarius can represent rule breaking and acting out against the current norms and rules.
When we have major aspects or important planets at zero, there’s a critical element to the message, but since we’re talking about a New Moon, AND an eclipse, we can’t see what this all means yet. Things are changing, our roles are being reevaluated- as we continue to move forward and adjust to our new ways of operating, these changes are inevitable.
Mercury has just gone retrograde in Cancer where it will continue for the next 3 weeks. It has joined the ranks of Venus, Saturn, Jupiter and Pluto. Neptune will join in on Tuesday and for 3 days we’ll have 6 planets retrograde. Since the Sun and Moon can’t be retrograde, that means 6 of 8 possible planets are in their retrograde phase. This will lead to delays, reversals, introspection, maybe broken contracts and agreements. This makes sense given the issues around social distancing and businesses’ leases and loans. This retrograde period could give people a chance to renegotiate and/or rethink what next steps look like.
For all of us, we’re getting the chance to figure out how to cope with the changes happening all around us. Mercury is in a very thoughtful place in relation to the Sun, and since it’s being ruled by the New Moon, we’re being given the chance to rethink some of our attitudes and behaviours: to self-reflect on how we’d like to move forward into the world.
This New Moon begins a cycle that will be completed Sept 17th 2022. As far as this particular eclipse goes, “Restrictions, inhibition, restraint, separation and illusions are the trademarks of this family of eclipses. Events can occur which seem to block the individual. In this blocking the individual is very prone to misjudge his or her strengths or the situation and is best advised to wait until the eclipse passes before taking any real action.” Bernadette Brady; Predictive Astrology (p. 313). This coupled with all the retrogradation speaks to using restraint rather than plowing ahead with abandon. If, however, you are someone with a lot of planets retrograde in your natal chart, this could be a very productive time for you.
Take this time to self-reflect, rather than set intentions. Sit with your feelings. Remember to breathe. Take care of yourself. xoxo
