Welcome to a New Moon in Virgo! This New Moon falls in the middle of a weird time of delays and slowdowns. New Moons encourage us to start anew, while retrograde planets are more about dealing with existing plans, projects, or situations. The sign of Virgo teaches us to improve upon what we have, asking us to tweak and perfect it.
Here’s the Sabian symbol description from Lynda Hill of the degree of this New Moon:
A ROYAL COAT OF ARMS ENRICHED WITH PRECIOUS STONES
What this Symbol implies is a strong connection to heritage and family lines. This can give rise to feelings of pride and honor as one accepts that a sense of nobility is one’s birthright. Even if there’s no actual nobility in your bloodline, there can be a sense of nobility about your character and bearing. There are things to stand up for and represent, regardless of where you come from and who your ancestors and your family are. Believing in yourself and your abilities will give you strength and stability, and people will believe in your beauty, talent, or worth, regardless of your background or where you’re from.
A long lineage stands behind you. Topics include nobility, ‘Coats of Arms,’ pure blood, hereditary issues, having rights and prestige, pageantry, knights jousting, inheritances, and privilege. On the downside, you might encounter superficial judgment on one’s worth, privileges for the select few, elitism, snobbery, feeling above everyone, class consciousness, and treating people like underlings.
Because Mercury is the ruler of the sign Virgo, Mercury’s condition is important when looking at this lunation. Mercury is stationary, getting ready to change direction. This indicates a pause, encouraging us to stop and think before moving forward. BUT, the next aspect for the Moon, and soon after, the Sun, is a trine to Uranus.
When the New Moon forms a trine with Uranus, you may be in for a wild ride and potentially positive change. Think of it as the universe giving you a nudge to break out of your shell. You’ll feel extra spontaneous and open to new experiences. It’s like your intuition gets an upgrade, so trust your gut and go for it. If you’ve been thinking of starting something new, set the intention, but wait until Mercury’s moving forward around the 21st. It’s never great to dig in your heels and resist change when Uranus is part of the astrological story, so embrace change and go with the flow.
This New Moon chart also features Venus moving in to square Jupiter, which will be at its most intense from Saturday until Monday around 1 p.m. Mountain Time. When Venus squares Jupiter and they’re both chilling in fixed signs, you’ve got a vibe of indulgence meets stubbornness. It’s like wanting to eat the whole cake and not share a slice. You might feel the urge to go big in love or money, but try to keep a leash on going overboard. Because these planets are in fixed signs, you might stubbornly stick to your decisions, even if they’re not the best in the long run. It’s a good time for fun, but maybe not the best time for long-term commitments. Keep an eye out for FOMO driving your choices. Enjoy, but try not to tip the scale too much!
We had these two meet at this same degree on August 21st – 23rd. At that time, Venus was the one retrograde, and we would have been examining our values and self-worth during that meetup. But now it’s Jupiter that’s retrograde. During this pass, we might ask if our ideology is reflective of our values.
Mercury will be moving by next week, but it moves through its station this weekend. This can sometimes be even more disruptive than Mercury is during its actual retrograde period. Be patient with yourself and others. Strive to be clear in your communication, and see if there’s a new way to solve an old problem. Be kind to yourself! xoxo
